Anymore I really don't care who smokes or where. 2006 voters approved the no smoking thing state wide in all public places where people are.
A year later, this is where we are at. Working for a fast food chain, our drive thru business was about 60% while inside was 40% befor the ban. Now the business in the drive thru has gone up to about 77% and the lobby is way down. This is just not at the chain I work for, but all the others as well. Long lines outside with cars running vs coming inside has undoubtly increased gas consumption thoughout the state. In Ohio if you eat your meal on the premises, you pay sales tax on it. If you get it to go, it is tax free except for carbonated beverages. However, the smokers drive thru (since they cannot smoke inside the store) get their meal and then park to eat it. In all actuallity, they should be paying tax since it was consumed on the premises. So I'm curious of how much tax revenue is lost, but however more tax money is raised thru the gas tax. It may balance out in the long run, but it is still causing more energy to be expended in my opinion.
Funny thing is, I hardly hear anything that relates to second hand smoke now on how dangerous it is. I would fear MRSA and many other germs that can do more harm. BTW, I haven't had a cigarette in 19 months, but I have enjoyed a cigar here and there.
