Is this a good year with readily available parts? he says it is ran last summer and he has a CD repair manual i can have as well. He didn't tear into says he thinks maybe the carb needs cleaned, but doent need it. What do you guys think. Owe $50.
I went and looked at it and pulled the trigger. it does have a built in gas tank so i guess i don't know what year it is. I can tell you that it is beautiful. In very good original condition everything is there. I didn't do a compression test but it felt good when i pulled the cord. i will have to take a picture to show it off. I ended up getting it for $40. Is model #7512-04991
any idea what year it is? Am i going to be able to find parts for it?
Speaking of manuals, lucky for you, courtesy of Mr Steve Ott, there is the manual for the 54 posted online. Very similar Id imagine. After you copy and paste the following link, click on "TechInfos", then on "1954 7.5hp Owners Manual".
Other sites that you will find useful are laingsoutboards.com, maxrules.com, "http://www.outboard-boat-motor-repair.com/"
and AOMCI.org
$50 is the right price. Good motors. The neutral clutch is apparently troublesome, but I haven't worked on one. The oldest 7.5 hp I have is a 1954. Check the coils, replace the impeller and lower unit oil. You may also need to reseal the lower unit and rebuild the carb. Post back if you get stuck.
Yeah that's a sweet deal...you lucky dawg. The neutral clutch/lever isn't hard to deal with, they're serviceable enough. When they fail, if you don't want to mess with it again, you can just use the motor as a direct drive...just make sure you're headed to open water when you start her up.
Here are some pictures of my new 7.5hp evinrude. I am having trouble locating any parts for it. I have been to maxrules and a couple other sites but they both only carry parts for the 7.5hp of 1954 and up. Any suggestions on where to get parts? I am planing on following the steps from "awekening an old outboard" but need to get the parts first. Carb kit, impeller, etc. Thanks for any help.
Nice looking engine. I got a 1950 7.5 this summer for US$40 and it started first pull I used it a lot this summer. Mine was UGLY though... Photo attached. I hate it when folks repaint the engines other than original.
Looks quite nice. I expected it to be much worse by the description. Ignition parts are the same as the 1954+. The carb kit for a 1954+ might work, but the impeller seems to be a vintage special order part.
