I HAVE A PROBLEME WITH MY ENGINE OMC KING COBRA
ELECTRICAL PLAN OF SYSTEM IGNITION SPITFIRE SENSOR OF DETONATION

I HAVE NEED OF THE ELECTRICAL PLAN OF SYTEME FIRING OMC 454 IGNITION SPITFIRE SENSOR OF DETONATION ...

WHAT THE AVANCE TIMING FOR THIS ENGINE OR V8 BIG BLOCK

Hi idle and improper timing are the most common cause of the engine running backwards when you shut it off (dieseling)

Sorry about your problems,

1. Find someone who reads English.

2. Your 1989 may be a 1990 model (PWS) . I think the 454 came out in 1990.

3. Have him/her do a search on US EBAY for a service manual for a 1990 King Cobra. EBAY user "SEARAYMAN13" always seems to have OMC manuals (I got mine from him)

4. You may have to switch to a distributor system for ignition. The Spitfire ignition system for the King Cobra may be obsolete. Check with Doug Russell Marine or BRP for parts

Ayuh,....

Aftermarket Igntion usually gives Better Starting,+ Running,.... Not more Power.......
Inital Timing should be around 8?/ 10?....

The Horsepower is/ was probably 330hp.... Max rpms would be 4400/ 4800rpms.......

MSD might be ok or any after market ignition. I don't know if the after market systems use a detonation (knock) sensor though. I don't think you should run without a knock sensor. You could cause engine damage is the engine is allowed to "ping" or detonate and you may not be able to hear it when it happens.

It might even be possible to switch to a Mercury Thunderbolt V system. (which does use a knock sensor)
The ignition control system actually retards timing when knock or detonation is detected.

You also have a shift interrupt system (not an Electronic Shift Assist) that might work well with an after market system.

Ayuh,....

You're trying to Fix a Dead Horse,......OMC is Dead,+ Gone....

Either of those manifolds will bolt to the motor,.....
Getting the end of the riser to line up with the rest of the plumbing will be the Problem that you'll have to get around.....
