Re: 85 force power trim

If you are good with a welder then I guess you can make anything fit anything.

Some mercs used the same 3w motor/pump as chrysler. In which case the motor will bolt right onto your transom bracket. However, it will be 3w and your boat is wired for 2w. Also, the hydraulic rams probably aren't worth the trouble of rigging up.

You're in a bad spot. The systems usually only last 17-23 years before the seals give out. Then the motor rusts from inside out and tilt starts bleeding down. It is more related to age of rubber seals than hours of use. So if you buy a used one you may still be looking at a $250-$300 rebuild. If not now then probably soon. New ones aren't available.

IMO - your best three options are:
1. find a used system during off-season for $150ish and have it rebuilt
2. be patient and try to find a rebuilt system on ebay ($450-600)
3. buy third party and be ready to pull engine off boat

what all is involved in rebuilding the power trim? I can't find instructions anywhere! I've got a 1979 chrysler 140.
