I have a model 9622A evinrude 9.5 and I'm wondering about the availability of a repair kit for its fuel pump. The pump it has is a little different than some of the newer ones I've seen. It has six screws (three on top and three on bottom) plus one in center. The inlet and outlet barbs are both on the left side and the two top corner crews hold it to the powerhead. I can't find a replacement kit listed specifically for the 9.5 and I want to make sure I get the right one. Can anyone here tell me the part number of the repair kit that I need. I'm also looking for the carb float assembly. If anyone knows of a source for just the plastic float I'd be interested. I see that the factory carb kits come with a new float but all I need is a new float to replace the cork one I currently have. I have heard that there is some stuff that can be used to coat the cork float but it would have to be resistant to the alcohol added to the fuel. I think plain old varnish would quickly break down. Anyone know of a proven substance that will wirk for this purpose?
Unless someone has come up with a new source, the only floats available are still the cork ones that come with the OEM carburetor kits.
The earlier 9.5HP motors had the fuel pump that you have, 380034. They were discontinued on the 9.5 and later models used the small square pumps #382224, now superseded by #388833. Either pump will do quite well.
I have been using the Sierra part 18-7350 with good success.

Ezeke, thank you for the information. Just for my clarification, are you saying that there is no repair kit for the 380034 fuel pump I have now and that I will have to buy the newer style pump (18-7350)?

I have in my notes for the 1965 fuel pump #380034 that Sierra repair kit #18-7800 could be used on the pump and that Sierra Pump #18-7351 could be used as a replacement. http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfinde...****=177668010
Thanks Ezeke, from the picture of the 18-7800 repair kit it looks like the screw hole pattern will line up to my old pump but from my memory I think at least one of my gaskets would have to be recycled from my pump since it doesn't look like its included based on the picture. Do you have anything in your notes that explains how well the 18-7800 kit matches up? I could also still replace with the newer style square shaped pumps (18-7350)?
What I have is a factory service manual that says the pumps are not serviceable. Now that is certainly debatable, but in my experience, the kits are always missing something. The early pumps had flat cork gaskets and the later ones had large o-rings on the covers, for instance.
There is a fairly good discussion going on at the very first thread on this forum if you want to get another perspective.
I have never spent much time rebuilding fuel pumps.
Ezeke I pulled off my fuel pump to get a closer look and its part number on the back is 304089. Is there anything you can tell me about the availability of repair kits for this pump? Is it similar to the model number 380034 you quoted before? Thank you again for your help so far.
