Help dropping Lower Unit 1988 15 HP Merc

I am trying to change the water impeller on a 15 HP 2 stroke Merc. I have the lower unit partially hanging but will not completely drop. Does anybody know the trick to releasing it. I tried neutral ,reverse & forward without success!

Please Help

Look under the carb on the port side there is a pin in the shift linkage that has to be removed
