This is an '83 Rude 60 HP. The prop locks in gear in forward and reverse with the linkage, but does not drive when the motor is turned over. Other than a broken drive shaft, what can cause that? Secondly, how does the shift rod disconnect? I have the lower unit all loose to drop it and check it out, but I can't get the dadgum rod disconnected. Need help, gurus. Thanks.

I know there are drawing at ishopmarine.com and the evinrude site. On my 1979 115 the shift rod goes up under the carbs and there is a bolt through the very top of the rod. As far as what is broken it my be a stripped spline in the crankshaft, broken driveshaft, broken crank, stripped gear in lower unit. You will have to continue with tear down.
