Will a 1990 90 horse lower unit interchange with a 1976 115 - Johnsons of course?

seriously doubt it, the 76 is a hydro mechanical lower unit, the 90 is a mechanical lower unit.

Just about nothing on a 1976 115 HP motor will work after 1977. Have you tried Horne's Marine Salvage in St Petersburg? salvagemarine .com 727-896-1032

They will not bolt up. We could get around the type of shift issue but those two motors have different bolt patterns.

We'll assume you need a lower for a 1976 motor. You'll need a lower from any 1973 to 1976 V4 or a lower from a 1977 20" 85 or 115. A lower from a 1977 140 will not work either.

And, DHadley implied this, but I'll state it explicitly. The '77 XL shaft (25") won't work either.
