is there not as much science to trailers as I think there is?

I am looking at a used boat to restore ( 18' Hydra Sports) The trailer is a little rough and while I may decide to just fix up the old...I have fixed several trailers/ ladder racks/ etc for the shop I used to work for...and the repairs are fine but rust is rust and it always returns. I am thinking on a newer alum trailer.
...seems the trailers I look at are for 17-19' foot boats...but what about where the bunks sit etc? isn't this important for different boat hulls/styles??? Don't you need to match the trailer to the boat??????

Tri hulls are a problem. V-drives are a problem. But a V-hull is pretty much a V-hull and nearly every manufacturer makes bunk and roller style trailers that are fully adjustable for nearly every boat. Unique hulls require a slight variation on the trailer to accommodate the boats uniqueness.

be sure to get one with a longer tongue. it makes launching and retrieving so much easier.
