Hello everyone,
I finally recieved my carb rebuild kits today by mail. I went ahead and rebuilt my top carb after soaking it for about 24 hours and I put it back together and put in a zip lock bag and marked it top carb and now I tore apart the bottom carb and have it soaking in carb cleaner Gunk in the gallon paint can. My question is I put in both freeze plug back in the top carb and I went beyond and flatten it out and the freeze plugs look to be secure and have no movement or looseness to them. Basically what I am saying is when I put the freeze otr the core plugs back in I went a little beyond flatten them but they seem to be in pretty well and I can't get them to move or they don't feel loose at all. Will that cause a problem since there not exactly flat. I used th male end of a quarter inch extension to put them in. Also, I noticed on the new carb gasket for the idle channel, the H-shaped aluminum looking cover that goes on the carb body for the idle channel, that it is cut out in the L-shape and the black idle channel gasket was solid. Let me know about the freeze plugs becuase they aren't the prettiest looking install job but they look secured onto the carb body and aren't loose at all. Thanks again, Bob

99.9% they are fine. the different cut of the gasket is that they are made to fit several different carbs, it will be fine. the 1/4" extension works fine also.

I am just nervous since this is my first carb rebuild and I am so nervous it will not run at all when I go to crank her after I put the carbs back in her again and button her up. I feel like I am walking on egg shells. So far, I have been doing all of my maintenance myself and if the motor runs great after the carb rebuild I will have shed a ton of bricks of my back and feel great knowing I did the carbs and the motor works great. Also, I have decided not ot buy the Bayliner Rendezvous Deckboat since it will probably cost more to run her anyway. My little boat works great for me and my family but it is a little small for us but as high as gas prices are going it might be better for me to run my small boat and it doesn't cost that much to fill her up since she is a 88 Horsepower motor SPL Evinrude model E88MSLCER. Now I pray that I got the carbs done right especially the core/freeze plugs installed correctly and she will crank with ease and no problems. She is a good boat and I just did the carbs as a preventive maintenance since I have never done them before since I have owned this boat. Wish me good luck, Bob

the 88 is a fantastic motor. i had one for a while, til a guy in South America offered me too much money, i could not refuse him. shipped it to SA.

Hello everyone,
I finally got both my carbs rebuilt and intstalled them today after soaking in carb cleaner, running wire threw the jets, and blowing the jets and the entire carb out with 100 to 125 psi and putting new rebuild kits in it today. I pulled my boat out of the garage and cranked her over and she is running pretty well after the carb rebuild on the water muffs. However I got an overheat horn and immediately shut it off. I went and looked at my water hose and it is stiff as a baord and had a kink in the hose not allowing all the water pressure to get to the muffs so there wasn't the full 100% pressure of water flow gettong to the muffs just a little bit and I was getting a pee stream but not the complete water flow. After I starightened out the stiff as a baord hose I got a stronger water flow from the garden hose and I cranked the motor over and let her run a good while and never got an alarm sound and the heads were pretty cool to the touch warm and I was able to lay my fingers on the port and starboard tops of the heads for about a good 6 seconds before I had to remove them. So I am hoping I don't have an overheat problem just a restriction in my garden hose not allowing the full water fkow to the muffs. My garden hose is outside and it got down to the low 30's last night so it was stiff as a board but it did get up to the low 50's today when I carnked her over this afternoon. I think I am fine becuase the motor was running fine after the horn went off and no more horn was sounded after I git the water flow corrected. Thanks again for all your help. hopefully there was enough flow, that it did not burn up the impeller. all you can do is try it. i would put water pump kit on the list of things to do, in the near future. sounds like you did it right.

Next time you work on the carbs buy a couple of new float bowls. If you have the original black plastic ones they tend to warp over time and leak because they can't seal flat against the gasket. They went to cast aluminum bowls about 4 years ago.

Yes, my float bowls are black plastic and seem to hold pressure after I pumped the fuel bulb comming from the fuel tank up. Like I said, I rebuilt the carbs and snugged the float bowl to carb body pretty snuggly to make sure the the gasket was sealed. Then I pressurized the fuel system up with the bulb and no fuel leaked out anywhere on both carbs so I think I have a sealed carb and fuel pump. Before, I rebuilt the carbs there was a little bit of fuel residue on the gasket outside the float bowl gaskets on both carbs but now there is none and it is dry as a bone so hopefully that was what was causing a little bit of idle problems in the past before the carb rebuild. You're welcome Bob. If its dry then everything is good. My floats leaked like a siv and in some spots sprayed out when I squeezed the bulb. They were way out of flat. -- Steve
