Default New Boat Owner

Not actually going to own it, but will be primary boater. Most of my boating has been on flats and ocean fishers. I'll be taking position of inlaws 2005 Bayliner 195. They bought it new and it has only been on the water for the intial post purchase walk through.

Obviously the first thing I'll be doing is taking it to a local Merc specialist for a once over.

I'm sure I'll have several questions along the way, so I figured I'd introduce myself. Lots of information on this forum so I'm reading away.

Buddy

Welcome to iboats. Sounds like a sweet deal. Do you have to pay anything on it or just pay for the maintenance and repairs on it when needed? How come they have never used it?

.... and did it sit outside in the weather, was it covered, did they put any fuel stabilizer in it while it sat?

I'm sure it's in good shape, just be aware that a sitting boat may not age well..

what is it power by? when storing keep the bow high, so any water in it drains, keep it covered, whether it is inside or outside. keeps them clean, and if outside save the wear and future rot.

Boats that sit are boats that get towed back to the ramp. for starters get some fresh fuel through that system, oil change, dont forget that engine and drive unit are still technically in break in.

Trailer? Look at the trailer discussions for bringing it up to specs. tires, bearings, and electrical are the biggies.

I wish my wife would come with a boat.

Welcome aboard creeks!! Spend some time in the I/O forum below vvvvvv Lots of good stuff there. I would say system checks on everything, new fuel and fuel filter as noted and the rest of the fluids too.

Thanks for the welcome. Answers below.

All we are paying is maint, repairs and storage (moved it to our side of town)
Why they didn't use it. I don't think they were comfortable with the whole idea.

Erik
It was stored outside, covered and fuel stabilizer was added

Once I pick it up this weekend, we'll clean everything up shiny and first thing Monday morning it goes in for a complete once over trailer included.

Quick update, Picked it up on Saturday from the in-laws. Ends up being a 185 instead of 195. Not that big of a deal to us. Spent good part of Sunday scrubbing, dropped it off for the once over and to see if they could put the Lowrance I want in it today. Now just waiting on the phone to ring so I can go pick it up....
