Default 1979 Evinrude 140 fuel pump rebuild.

Does anyone know how to re-assemble the fuel pump? I've taken it apart for cleaning and rebuilding but can't, for the life of me, remember exactly how it is supposed to be assembled. There's really not much to it, I'm simply drawing a blank. The service manual and parts manual doesn't show an exploded diagram for it either. Also, another rookie question, I'm assuming it is NOT ok to soak the plastic parts in carb cleaner. Will it eat them up? Thanks a bunch for any and all advice in advance............. ALAN

You are correct, keep the non metallilc parts away from the solvents.

This may help.

Thanks HighTrim, but the fuel pump pictured looks nothing like that of mine. It was worth a look see though.

Thanks again Chris, but that's basically what my manual shows me too. I'm looking for an exploded diagram of the internal parts of #1 (fuel pump assembly) in your scanned image though. I have the rebuild kit, but can't remember how it is assembled. Thanks again......... ALAN

Edit....... If I posted some photo's tomorrow, could anyone get me on the right track?

Ok......some photo's of the pump finally. Hopefully I am correct on this........The diaphram is to be sandwiched between the two seals and the two halves are then closed together? Hopefully I have the springs and plungers in the correct possitions here? Can anyone tell me if this is correct? Thanks a bunch for any help you guys can offer............ ALAN

ok here they are:
http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc277/garzaglass/
i couldnt figure out how to shrink my pics so i put them online.
a couple of notes. the diaphram is not between 2 seals. only one is touching it. the other seal goes on between the plastic piece and the thin metal plate. also it looked like you had your spring in the wrong location. if you have any questions let me know.

Thanks Jim, but the diagrams on the BRP website are identical to the parts and service manuals. To the best of my knowledge, there is no exploded parts diagram for these pumps, as the kits weren't available at the time the manuals were printed. And the diagrams on the BRP web site are replicas of the parts manuals.
