Unhappy Help with Lower unit 1991 Evinrude TE60TLEIB

1991 Evinrude TE60TLEIB I got late last year and it pumped water fine. I decided to replace the impeller before putting it back in the water.

#1 Problem

All of the bolts were very tight so I applied heat and when they came out it looks as though they had lock tight or some other kind of sealer so naturally 1 of them snapped off.

#2 Problem
The lower unit won't separate. I suspect a sealer of some sort was used here also.

Has anyone else had any similar problems and would share some solutions or just general advice as what to do next.

Thanks in advance for any and all comments.
Tom

Some mechanics seal the gearcase mating edge with Gel Seal or similar coating. You will have to break it loose.

The broken screw may be holding as well. They usually corrode on the shoulder rather than the threaded part so you may have enough left to put a visegrip on after heating it a bit.

There are seven bolts to remove holding the gearcase to the midsection if you include the one holding the trim tab; did you get them all?

No Only six The last one only appeared to hold the lead. MY Bad. I will remove it and try again.
Thanks Ezeke

The anode bolt is not one of them- that would make 8. Look above the trim tab and you will find one hidden there.

Good time to install a new anode though; it will help stop the corrosion of your bolts.

Thanks Ezeke

Now where does the shift linkage disconnect. My manual goes through 1991 but on shows early model diagrams. also the anode show no deterioration. Does it still need replacing?

Test your anode with an ohmmeter. It must have a solid connection. I looked at a guy's badly deteriorated lower unit last summer; he still had the plastic floor model fake anode in place and it looked great. Been there since 1982!

Your shift rod enters the engine compartment exactly centered between the port and starboard sides and under the rear of the carburetors, whereit attaches to a lever that moves it up and down. The lever is released by removing pin or clip and pulling the rod to starboard, I think, but am not sure..

I have an Evinrude 150KP 1990 that I put a waterpump in. If your motor is like mine, you will need a very long pair of needle nose pliars to get the pin out of the shift fork. Good luck.

Well the worst had to happen. One bolt snapped off and then the ez out broke off. Anyone had any luck with removing a broken ez out? Are there any dead 1991 rude 60 hp for parts? Does any one know what years are interchangable? I am almost afraid to look at a new section from BRP

Thanks in advace for any help
