Serial number > Year on 50hp Mercury

Hi Guys, i have followed multiple threads to various sites to try and find the year for my 50hp mercury. They all had 50hp engines listed but none went as high as the serial number i have. #9456469.

I am stuck without the year as i cannot order some bits. Sorry to repeat what appears to be a common query. Thanks

Should be 1986 3 cyl.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The problem is it is a 4 cylinder not 3 so i guess that year may not be right.

Is it a 50 or could it be a 4 cyl 45 or even a 40

Pretty sure it is a fifty as it has the decals on the top and the leg that say classic fifty.

The classic fifty name was not use until they rated the engine as a 45HP so everyone would know that it was the old fifty that makes your engine a 1986, 45HP.

The 4 cyl 50 hp engine was a Belgium motor starting at SN 09248006 and up used from 1980 thru 1985.

Heres the list read it yourself, I get sick of all this. Goto model guide, then to Producktionsarlista Mercury, then to the 35 to 65Hk engines that lists all Belguim built engines by the year!

Don't get mad at me Bob here is from Mercs dealer parts catalog.

While it doesn't give the years, Mercnet (also dealer) shows the years that the engine was used.

On the newer engine, about 0AXXXXXXX and newer, you can type in the sn and find the year, but not on the older motors.

Have you tried contacting www.mercpub@mercmarine.com or call 1-920-929-5040 Customer Service. They sell original Merc manuals and if you give them the serial number; they can give you the exact model, and year. Good luck.
