Breaking News - Avalanche (Update)

Mountain High, one of our local ski areas, had an avalanche today. It caught six skiers/boarders. One dead, one in the Hospital and one still missing . . . :( My two oldest sons have season passes there. Neither was on the mountain today.

we just had one at big white. lost one skier.....4 were missing...but we found them safe in the sno

horrible

my nephew is part of a pro snowboard team that is allways there...had to call my sis and ask where he was that day without letting her know why...
he wasnt on the hill that day either...

know what your goin thru.....

its scary.

ill talk to the big guy on those missing where you are

I used to be a Patroller at one of our local mountains, Mt. Baldy. Baldy was the only local area that was considered and avalanche risk. We regularly trained in Avalanche recovery and Avalanche prevention. We cut for Avs and thru bombs there. The confirmed death was a patroller :( My guess is they were out of bounds, but I don't have the details yet. There were actually two and this ski area just doesn't have any terrain that would be suspect.

There are now three dead. Two off-duty patrollers and a 60 YO character actor . . . All three were out of bounds tasting some great powder. There was a fourth guy missing, but he was stumbling around in the dark for 12 hours, but no avalanche connection . . .

I am sure more details will emerge, but this was typical of avalanche deaths everywhere. Experienced guys looking for good snow. It is that simple.

Had an acquaintance that died up doing the helicopter drop thing......
Left behind a wife & two kids.......:rolleyes:

Dam shame. We recently lost a Vermonter in one who was in CO.

If there is a bright side...... they were doing something they enjoyed.
