I recently had someting get between the prop and the skeg on the lower unit which caused a big chunk to be broken out of my skeg.
I found a new skeg which is reasonable. I also know a great welder and he will weld it for me but I need to pull the lower unit and empty the housing to prevent the heat from damaging the oil or parts. My question is since the new skeg will need to be welded to the housing, is the lower unit difficult to drop are there any
surprises I should look out for? Is this a matter of pulling the 4 bolts and dropping the unit or is there more difficult procedures involved?
If its a 2008, why not turn it in on insurance?? A dealer can handle this for you. If its a Torquemaster or Cle unit REPLACE the housing!! There are BAD stories out there where skags have broken off at high speeds!!
