Default 1994 Evinrude 25hp e25reda Lower Unit drop.

I have an evinrude 25hp e25reda outboard and I am having a few problems. I am trying to change the water pump and can't get the lower unit to drop i remove all the obivous bolts and it drops about 2" down. I remove what i think is the shift linkage but still nothing. Im not quite sure i know what the shift linkage is? There is nothing under the carb. To the left is the shift rod and what i think is the linkage. Any advice would be greatly apperciated. I have read all the forums and bought a service manual which was very vauge. Problem number 2. My friend removed the pivot pin when he thought he was removing the oil plug. I got the pin in with a nail used to line it up but it doesnt seem to shift into reverse and sounds like something is blocking it from going into reverse. Maybe its not properly aligned? I havent tried to run it b/c the waterpump is out so i dont know if it will go into reverse but i cant shift it. Any help would be greatly aperciated. I can post pictures to if that helps.

i don't know what you disconnected under the carb. but there is a 1" x 2" plate side the side of the motor leg, with 2 screws, behind that is the connection for the shift rod. remove the bottom screw, don't drop it. then it should drop right out. when reinstalling besure the O ring is in place at the top of the drive shaft, the water tube lines up, and the shift shaft has a notch in it, that lines up with the screw hole in the connector.

is the motor leg the midsection above the lower unit. I have looked on it everywhere for a connection point with screws but cant find a plate. Could you be a little more specific on where it is on the motor leg. I really aperciate your help. Thank you. Any suggestions on the pivot pin.

On a 94 the shift linkage disconnects behind the little vents above the prop. Take the screws out of both sides and pop them off. Don't take the screws out of one side and try to pop it off...they are screwed together. Behind these you will see a nut on top and a nut on bottom. Hold the bottom nut and unscrew the top nut off of it. The top nut will now slide up and down on the shaft. On the very bottom tip of the upper shaft you will see a little plastic thing that goes around the shaft. It is split and needs to come off. do it carefully so you don't break it or have it fling to unkown and unfindable regions so you can re-use it. Once that is done, loosen all the bolts that hold the lower unit (the part with the prop) and it should drop off. Re-install in reverse order.
