Two repair shops and 1000.00 dls later still no relief..my boat runs great for the first 20 or 30 min to the first fishing spot. Then I'll start the boat and when I gun it, it seems to run on 3 cylinders or it has no power for a few minutes, sometimes longer, before it kicks in and gets on the pad. The problem is intermittent. It's had a compression check, fuel system check and even a head gasket replaced.

Any ideas? Can anyone out there help to troubleshoot the problem?

Much appreciated,
Will L.

Will,

I'm a newbie too...so take this for what it's worth. Sounds like you've spent a lot of time and money....but did they check your ignition system out? I'm assuming there's a computer involved in controlling everything...so I'm wondering if they could check that for you without too much hassle.

Sounds like fuel or spark....

A intermittantly failing electric fuel pump can cause headaches.

Try rigging a fuel pressure guage and watch the pressure, see if you have lower pressure when you restart. Their should be a high pressure port looks like a tire stem/valve that you can screw a line onto.

Be very careful what line you use and fitting, your pressure could be in the 40's, ANY LEAK is not safe to run with even for a short test run.

Be careful.

It's very common on the V/6 engines for a stator or switchbox to act like that, check the engine cold for spark on all cyls. if either one bank or the other don't have fire when cranking the engine do a full test of the ign. system with a DVA
