I had a 95 Sport Jet 120hp that went bad, so I just picked up a 97 Sport Jet 120xr powerhead. I installed it in the boat and used my 95 electronic (stator, trigger, CDI, ect.....) The flywheel was different from 97-95 so i used the 97 Flywheel (95 wouldn't fit, seems the crankshaft diameter is different at top) Now I have no spark or intermittent spark. I get spark everytime when I have the throttle open thus advancing the trigger. But I don't get any spark with the throttle in the neutral position. Can anyone help me, please? I do have the red stator and a newer CDI and had spark just fine before the swap? Is the 97 not compatible with 95 electronics? Thanks in advance

Re: Can 95 Sport Jet stator, trigger, electronics be used on a 97 Sport Jet

UPDATE: Turns out the answer is no.

I had a 95 that went south on me, took it to a place to be rebuilt, they were taking forever (2 months) to get the job done. In the meantime while they were rebuilding the 95 I came across a used 97 with low hours that I purchased in the hopes of putting it in the boat and be on my way. Of course that didn?t work. The 95 finally got finished so I put it in and used the same 95 electronics I had on the 97 that wasn?t giving me spark and she fired up just fine.

My conclusion as to why the 97 would not fire with the 95 electronics is the flywheel from the 95 does not fit on the 97 powerhead because the crankshaft diameter. The stator and trigger from a 95 bolted up on the 97, however I needed to use the 97 flywheel. The 97 flywheel has 2 groves in the inner magnet where the 95 is a solid magnet. This caused the 95 trigger not to fire correctly.

So I have a nice clean 97 Sport Jet 120 powerhead looks to be recently rebuilt all cylinders are at 150psi up for sale if anyone is interested.

Do you have the flywheel for the 97?
i have a 1995 baja splash that needs a powerhead.
would this motor work with flywheel and the 95 electronics?

how much do you want for the powerhead????

Thanks for your interest. Yes I do have the flywheel for the 97, but as mentioned above the 97 powerhead will not work with 95 electronics. The 95 trigger will only work with the 95 flywheel and the 95 flywheel will not fin on the 97 powerhead. And the 97 trigger will only work with the 97 flywheel. I do have the 97 triggr, but the wire colors are diferent from 95. You can do some research or call mercury and see if the 97 trigger will work with the 95 electronis, that is the only way I see that you may be able to use the 97 powerhead. I am asking $995 plus shipping of $150 for the powerhead. Thanks
