Unhappy Evinrude 150 Not Pumping Water

I purchased a 1989 Evinrude 150 that sat for 3 years. I got the motor running after some work. When I started it it was spraying a good stream of water from the tell tale. After running the motor for some time while trying to set the timing and checking it out I noticed that it was just dripping water from the tell tale. I replaced the propeller, houseing and all the gaskets for the water pump. I hooked it up to the hose and it again was working ok. I then went to the lake and after a few minutes it wasn't spraying again. What else could be the problem. I blew through the lines before I put it together. I also took the thermostats out and put the in boiling water to be sure they work and they opened and closed fine. Any help would be greatly appresiated. thank you

I did not see the words "I replaced the impeller" in your post or is it a typo where you said propellor ????
The thermostats usually open way short of boiling point so they may be suspect as well. Not sure what temp they should open up bu 140 degrees ish rings a bell with me. Someone will be along shortly that will know exactly for your motor.

probbebly your teltale is getting clogged.

run the motor on the hose or in the water and when you see that its not pissing anymore check the temp of the motor.

if you can hold your fingers for 3 seconds on the cylinderhead your block is getting water circulating trough it. and then your teltale is clogged.

if you can not hold your fingers on it for 3 seconds you have a couple of isseus.

1 check your overheat alarm.
2 if you correctly installed the waterpump and there is no waterpresure you might have

1, blockage in the watertube or passages.
2, leak in the watertube or pasages.

hope this wil help

hi you should pull lwer change water pump with full kit chrome kit if your in the salt and sand /also pull thermos and poppetts with full kit stainless if your in salt or sand run wire thru telltale and flush motor water passages from pickup tube tthru thermo holes until flushed , make sure you put a little dawn on pickup tube grommett be carefull .reinstall lower with new pump
and then reinstall full thermo kits fire your engine up on muffs til idle see what you have at tale tale if good flow let it run awhil at idle check both heads to see if there getting to hot should be able to touch 10 seconds
if not get a hand held temp reader and check both head temps. or temp stick with points that concide with manual me i would run two temp gauges one on each head i know this sounds over kill but if you want your motor to live dont spare on the pump and thermos dont ask how i know .lets just say i have perfect 150 v6 with two cyls scored due to a overheat
good luck benny b

Thanks for all the info and yes that was a typo I did replace the impellor.
I also blew through the lines when I replaced the water pump and air blew through fine. I don't see why it isn't working right. I am going to work on it again Monday or Teusday and I will let everyone know what I found. Thanks again.
