Going to start wakeboarding again after a 15 year hiatus. This is the board I still have from way back when. I was able to do pretty much anything back then, including almost getting the hang of flipping/rolling.
Well, here is what I got, am I going to be made fun of on the river using this thing? lol
Anything you can do to modify to be able to do a switch foot easier?
Should I just buy a new frikkin board and put this one up on the wall with my surfboard collection? I plan on getting a new board at some point, but I have to buy all skiis and boards and vests for the wife and daughters and since I have this thing, I am last on the totem pole for new equipment!

That is definately old school, not saying that in a bad way just from a design perspective. The newer boards are wider. twin tip(banana shaped) and a bit shorter. All of which make for more control, easier switch footing, bigger air and softer landings. I know people though that are pretty good on old boards and once on something new they struggle. Talk to some marine shops or board shops and see if you could demo one for a day or two for a nominal fee. That way you could see if its something you like if so then go for it if not your only out a demo fee($20.00-30.00) If you do decide to make a newer purchace check local classified type adds you can get a few year old model that is way nice for a LOT less than a new one good luck.

Hi....I will ride this board out for a couple of months maybe and get back into it. When I was riding, guys like Byerly were doing tricks on my kind of board, and I was pretty proficient myself. I was also in my 20's, however!
Im wondering if the new boards, like you said, may be difficult for me to get into since im "used to" this board that I dug out of my parents basement. Or if a new board will make it easier for me to work being older and out of it for a while.
TOugh for me to get a demo I think. Not a lot of board shops around here, and the closest one is a good 30 min away. I will call and see if they do this.

I would stick to what you have until you're ready for a new board. These things cost an arm and a leg nowadays. Although, I see some good deals on craigslist, but they're still costly.

Ok, I went to inland water sports in Brookfield yesterday with my 2.5 year old son who was so excited to see all of this stuff, which was cool! I taught him to say Radical Dood.
I am going to get a new board, they have closeouts on some liquid force, Hyperlite and some other boards with bindings for around $200 depending on what I finally decide on. I am afraid of getting into bad habits with my old board and making the transition more difficult.
I am going back next week with all of the family who also need stuff: wife wants new water skis, I am buying an airhead stingray 2 seater tube, I need tow rope, waterski/wakeboard line, and life jackets for all of us (wife, me, 12 yr old girl, 8 yr old girl, I already have one for the boy), plus a set of skis for the youngest daughter who wants to learn. The older daughter and my wife can share skis.
Getting a good package deal for buying everything at once.
No maiden voyage yet...should be any weekend now. Boat is still in the garage, but I think in the next 2 weeks I should be able to get it out, wash and wax and keep it outside with the canvas on. Damn weather! No more snow, but temps below or near freezing every night and I want to keep her warm lol.

Wakeboarding is awesome! I'm 49 and reliving my second childhood. For the longest time I've been pretty much a bass boater casting all day and going home sun burnt. Now, I fish in the morning and have some fun in the afternoon...YIPPEEE!...I can't wait for the summer months!
The biggest problem with a board that old IMO is no twin tips, but just to get back in the swing of things I don't see a problem with that.
The bindings (or lack thereof) is also a pretty big drawback IMO. Even with cheap boots I used to slip a foot out on take off which can (but luckily never did) lead to pretty significant leg injuries.
You can find QUALITY used gear on ebay and craig's list at great prices. When I first got into wakeboarding in the late '90's I came across a hyperlite at a buy/sell sporting goods store in mid-May. I don't think it had ever been on the water, they gave it to me for $100. I saw the same board in two different shops that same summer for $450 and $480. Just keep your eyes open.
Really good used boards are commonly found on ebay for $100 or less, about the same price on boots.
I bought a board at inland sports in Brookfield, ct. along with everything else...waterskiis for the wife and my oldest daughter, all life jackets (radar and o'brien) a stingray 2 tube, tube rope, wakeboard rope and handle (sectional) and a few other odds and ends...
Got a killer deal on a 2007 Byerly Legacy 56 with LF omni bindings, which were perfect for me to go from the sandal bindings to the newer bindings as the omni's have a lot of give.

first of all if you want to take that thing out for a quick run I guess it would be fun ,but boards have come along way and if you can flip on that piece of crap you would rip a new board with decent bindings or should I say boots vs sandles,you can go on ebay and look for factory blems and you will save $$$$ I bought a 2007 hyperlite 139 cm and hyperlite bindings for just a little over $200.00 it may seem like alot but check prices they are wack 200 is a smokin deal and check craigs list as well you can probably pick sumthin up around 150.00 used but try to get 2004 or above you wont believe the difference in control and design , by the way yur stance is all wrong on yur sandle set up lol.

I definitely plan on some old school riding! I have already adjusted the old board for the stance I want to have now, and got it all cleaned up and ready!
As well, I actually got out my T&C surfboard from my surfing days to see if I can get on that thing lol.
'08 searay sport 205. The new hull design is geared more towards a "wake boat". We took it out for the first time ever this past Sat, and yea, the wake is really great. I was out on a friend's Moomba, and I have to say, the SeaRay got it pretty damn good.
Water should be warm enough in about a month or so to actually board behind it. Can't wait!!!

My brother had the board after me and just used it for basic riding back and forth between the wake...nothing fancy so he had them set up that way. I was actually surprised he didnt trash the board, being my younger brother he destroyed pretty much everything I left him as I grew out of it lol.

I should have looked at your screen name. I surfed Montauk point about 2-3 times a week for 5 years (besides other times throughout life) during college with this baby. Thruster, I believe 6-2 (I gotta measure it one of these days!!!)
Gunther Rohn model, was pretty rare. I now have it displayed in the pool cabana hanging up, all cleaned up.

Montauk point, never been there myself but the waves look nice from the pictures I have seen. It's always fun to hear from a east coast surfer.

Yea, I am going to try that surf board out behind the boat. Probably not going to be very proficient, but Ill try! Curious if I have the balance and dexterity to bring it up on plane without the bindings and being pulled by a rope instead of allowing the waves to power me.
The waves were decent most of the time, lackluster on other days, and absolutely brilliant the rest of the time, especially when there are hurricanes or storms coming up the east coast at all.
Throw up the pic...Im always into the board sports and seeing people's collections. Heck, it was one of the main reasons we even got the boat is so I can get back into board sports, and pass this fun on to the kids. Living in CT, there is a bit of a trip to go find surf, and with 3 kids little time to get away to do so :-(
