Fuel Line Setup

Hello,

I have just recently purchased a Quinny Lazabout with a Johnson 70HP. When we purchased it second hand we had the carb rebuilt. It was running fine until just recently when it started to experience problems with low down throttle and sometimes idle. It would conk out. When it is opened up it runs fine..

Most of what we have read and been told points to problems with the fuel lines so we want to buy new lines and refit them.

My question is - Where does the Fuel Primer Bulb reside. In between the Motor and the Water seperator/filter or the tank and the seperator/filter.

Thanks and regards

It really doesn't matter as the primer action would be the same BUT it is usually located between the seperator and the engine.

as Joe said, between motor and separator, you will have to fill you separator canister, with fuel, this helps tremendously when trying to reprime the system. be sure the arrow on the bulb is pointing toward the motor.

Re: Fuel Line Setup

It will work either way. I actually have them in both locations - I have two saddle tanks and each has a bulb at the tank. I also have a fuel line running from a threeway selector to my bow area for a removable aux tank that I use when doing SAR calls. This one has no bulb but the bulb at the motor will pull fuel all the way from the bow to prime the lines and separator.

Re: Fuel Line Setup

The OE bulb is primarily meant to be located as near the tank as possible. It is intended to be a "pusher" rather than a "puller" but has been know to work either way.

Poistioning it after the water seperator / filter may result in having to manually fill an empty canister. On some boats (like mine) the bulb cannot be near the tank and remain accessable. It's a good 15 line feet away from the tank outlet and works fine.

If the anti-siphon valve is working correctly it should help keep the line primed.
