A big Gidday, Kia Ora and Hello to y'all from Kiwi #62! - currently located in the good state of Nevada - Las Vegas to be more precise. :D

It's been a while since I last passed this way on iboats, due to access problems from New Zealand (but that's being sorted out for me by iboats as I speak, which I really appreciate).

I'm looking to see how many of my good old friends from waaay back are still frequenting this fine nautical establishment. It's great to see that JB is still here. How about Crab Bait, BobInCalif, 12Footer, DJ, BoomYal, LadyFish and many others (my goodness I'm in trouble here, too many to list...) from way back?

So here I am in Las Vegas. Wow. It's just like they say. Every building seems to have a casino - even the airport. Crikey, it would be impossible to get bored around here, it's all go in every sense of the word.

How many of you have been here and not lost your boat, house and car in the process ? :D Any advice, tips, words of wisdom or general humorous banter out there for a Kiwi bloke on his first time in LV?

Looking forward to hearing from you...

Kiwi

Re: Viva Las Vegas!

I have been there several times.
I didn't lose my house, boat, car or anything but a little money.

Maybe because it has been so long since I have been there that I didn't have a house, boat, or very much money :)

Wow,
It has been at least 17 years since I was last there.
Last time I was there, I made something like $300 every two weeks. I don't know how I could afford to do anything then. Oh yeah, cause I was underage for the casinos and didn't have many bills and didn't get caught in the casinos by the security peoples. ;D

I wouldn't mind going back again. It was fun then, and I have heard it is even bigger, brighter and more fun now. Still can find cheap hotels and food, they make their money on the tables.

My advice, go 60 miles (or 100 km) northwest, when ya get to Pahrump, go to the Saddle West, they almost pay ya to stay there

Check out the water show at the Belaggio... check out the form shops at Ceasars Palace... get to Freemont Street if you can early in the evening.

Tons of shows all over the place (you just missed CES), tons of things to see, and I was told that if you go downtown, you can get steak and lobster for CHEAP!

Hi Kiwi;

Was there last halloween. We scrapped the concrete and steel and headed to Lake Mead. Check that place out if you have a chance. Its a beautiful place and a stark contrast to the city of lights!

Play the aisle slot machines. I know it's supposed to be just an urban legend but it has always worked for me. :)
Lots of great shows but pricey.
Hoover dam if you have time is impressive.
Lots of great guitar shops!!! :D

Howdi Kiwi.

Vegas is part of my territory. I go there frequently. I avoid the "strip" like the plague.

Actually, there is GREAT boating there on Lake Mead. QC (a.k.a. Quietcat) will be along to tell you all about it. He's a Mead Regular.

Like Spinner, I drive around LV, not through it. Never could understand the attraction.

Howdy Kiwi! Good seeing you here! Have fun in Vegas, but not too much fun! :D

Been there many times - usually just go with a couple rolls of quarters and when they are gone, I am done. But do have a story to tell. Oldsmobile used to send us there for the new car announcements. It was always a fun time. One year we were standing in line to register for our rooms and one of the sales managers goes up to the dime machine, drops 5 dimes and pulls the handle - $10,000 jackpot! He immediately wired the money home.

Next year he has used the last year's winnings to bring his wife and 2 kids with him. We are standing in line and he says to his wife - that is the machine over there ... then goes in, shows her how he dropped 5 dimes in, pulled the handle, and yep, $10,000 jackpot again! Lightning CAN strick the same spot twice!
