These cork floats were coated with orange shellac which will not accept use in todays modern fuel formulas, that will dissolve the shellac coating. ARE THERE MANY ENGINE RESTORERS THAT SOLVED THIS PROBLEM ? HOW DID YOU DO IT ?

Charlie, I would overcoat the shellac with polyurethane. Make sure the shellac is perfectly clean, before application. The other alternative will be to see if the OEM or aftermarket has an updated float.

I use polyeurathane as well. Its oil resistant. No problems to report, yet.

I coated a cork one with epoxy and it lasted 15+ yrs. Removed it a few months ago and the epoxy was almost all gone. If coated again it could be used but I've gone to plastic.

As already said, poly, epoxy...or go to the hobby shop and get some fuel-proof dope and reseal the float, it's used by scale model aeroplane enthusiasts cause its alcohol and gasoline proof.
