Default mercury trim control switch

I'm new to this forum, but after reading a few threads I figured someone out there might keep me from breaking something. I have a Mercury single lever control model #88688A26 with a bad trim switch. The owners manual that came with the unit references prying out the bezel to access the switch.
I tried a small screwdriver in the slots, no go. A pair of water pump pliers, no go. Do I just pry and hope it dosn't break? Any tips?

Wink Re: mercury trim control switch

On my MerCriuser, the switch was accessed via two phillips screws on the verticle part of the handle
