i can't seem to get the reverse and forward to line up, the adjustment on the rod will not seem to work. When i get the forward to work, the reverse won't work.
Speaking of an old '50s to '70s motor? The shifter handle shaft is probably worn loose and sloppy where it goes through the housing. AND/OR the lever on the inner end of the same shaft has come loose.
OR, the motor has been run without gear oil and the shifter cradle in the lower unit is worn out, along with the gear's bushings.
