Did Johnson Evinrude ever make a bullet nose lower unit for racing? Or is the bullet nose just a aftermarket add on?

Yes they built some for racing and even some of the 1960 engines came with bullet shaped units

This guy claims that it fits a 1985 150 Evinrude. Is this right?

If you're speaking of the one on eBay, it's an aftermarket nose job...

I have two catalogs (88 & 90) and they show Second Chance lower units for OMC 2 cyls, 3 cyls, 6 cyls (175hp) and V8s. I have to believe other yrs likely had the V6-150hp with a Second Effort setup. Some of the Second Effort gear cases look almost stock (similar to Bob's Machine Shop low water pickup) and others very radical with a long stretched needle nose.
