Please, Help me with this. I have a repaired mercury 500 powerhead, and need to change lower unit from 15 to 20 inch. I cannot find any 500 long lower units here in Croatia. Can a lower unit of merc 600 be used, and does a base of 500 fit to it. i cant seem to find the look of gaskets or lower unit sealing surface of merc 600. Thank for any help, Niksa from Croatia.

It,s hard to tell without serial numbers but my first though is that if your setting a 500 powerhead on a 600,3 cyl lower unit by swaping the plate under the powerhead it will work. Here is a very good set of Mercury manual to help at this site.
