Installing new trim and tilt

I purchased a new power tilt & trim for my 1984 115 johnson. I plan on installing it my self.
It there anything special I need to know before I start ?
Will I have to take the engin loose?
How do I fill it with fluid ?
Do I have to bleed the system if so how?

You may need to take the transom bracket loose and spread it apart enough to get the old one out and new one in.Some of the TT pumps had the smaller resivour and would just squeeze by the bracket without taking it loose.
The pump is self purging,just run it up and down a few times then check and top off the fluid.
On my 1981 Johnson instead of taking the bracket loose i just cut a small notch out of the bracket and the new unit went right in.Only had to notch about an 1/8 inch on one corner.
A turkey baster works good to fill the pump up with fluid..

Welcome to iboats. You did not mention if your rig currently had a TNT setup or if you are adding it from scratch?? What components are you adding? Do you have a wiring diagram? As far as the bleeding, Gary gave great advice, but would just add to have the motor all the way up before filling, then cylce a few times back to the fully up position, then fill again, etc...

Get ready for a fight! If you've been in salt water and even if you havn't, The tilt pin will be a bear. Just less of a bear, if only used in fresh water. I would recommend you test all the bolts attaching the body of the TT. I had one that required some major cutting and cussing to get the thing out. I was able to remove my TT without removing the engine from the boat. If your able to get all the bolts loose, and the pin removed, you should be able to get it out.

My advice...If you can afford to pay someone to do this....Pay em! More than likely you will nead propane heat for frozen components at some point.

When driving the tilt pin out, be sure to drill a hole in the end so you do not mushroom the pin and make things really bad.
