Re: Alpha drive?

If you are talking Gen I or II the two easy ways I know of are as follows. If you have a gear lube resevoir for the outdrive in the engine compartment and the speedometer pickup is in the outdrive, you have a Gen II.

if your talking alpha-bravo, i highly doubt that it would be a bravo.
bravo drives are reqired for applications over 300 hp. your 6 isnt that big.

Re: Alpha drive?

Quickest way to tell the two Alphas apart is to look at the point where the upper and lower gearcases meet. If they are held together by 4 exposed and easy to see nuts and bolts, it's a Gen II, if you see just three nuts on studs near the front of the drive, it's a Gen I.

Oops, The V6 is optioned with a choice of Bravo 2 or Bravo 3 drive. Bravo 3 has two counter-rotating props. Bravo 2 has a 20" propeller.

Cheers,

Chris.............

You could always take the serial number off of the drive and look it up on Merc's website. You'll know exactly what you have, and some great exploded parts views.
