Re: Which you think give a better ride into an afternooon chop?
Hulls are real similar so the choice is not that easy. The high angle of deadrise makes for a smooth ride on both; very wise choice.
The upper hull has 4 distinct notches made up of lifting strakes and reverse chines which will soften the entrance into the water as they act like brakes as the boat sinks.....crashes into the waves.
Both seem to have reverse chines which deflect the water down for a drier ride and provide lift at the same time.
The lower boat looks like it will enter larger waves easier and keep you drier.
All other things equal, I'd take the one on top. Bottom one a Whaler?
Re: Which you think give a better ride into an afternooon chop?
IMO The top one!,,, The bottom hull, has pockets on the side of the Vee where the smaller sponsons can trap turbulent water, and possibly slam in the rough. A plain deep vee is better in chop. The main purpose of the "edges" on the lower hull, is to increase stabilty.
Re: Which you think give a better ride into an afternooon chop?
BTW, the bottom one looks like a "deck" boat, so I am going to guess at about 16 degrees of deadrise at the transom, the top one is probably 18 - 20 degrees, so I believe the top boat will be significantly smoother in chop . . .
Re: Which you think give a better ride into an afternooon chop?
If both have the same dead rise then I say the top one. When entering the waves the progressive notches should allow for a smoother ride. The bottom one doesn't seem to allow any forgiveness if you get to her maximum "wave load" and hit harder.
Re: Which you think give a better ride into an afternooon chop?
My 21' boat looks like the one on the top but, with lifting strakes. It doesn't handle too well on chop with a light load. I've seen other boats without strakes going full length handle better.

Every single one of seabuddy's posts are some type of market research/review/poll. Frankly, I don't mind, but it would be nice if he mentioned who he was and who he was researching for. Tashasdaddy and I did not quietly post our Bayliner/Maxum threads/reviews. We made it very clear where we were and who we were guests of etc. . . . Only way to make it legitimate is to be upfront if you ask me. I remain
