I ran across an old 1969 johnson 115, I think it is a 69 model#115esl69e
is what the owner states the welch plug says. Has 115 compression across the 4 cylinders.

It is at an Merc dealer and he took it in as trade. Everythign is there except the prop and the engine looks good in the pics he sent me.

The question is are parts still available for this old workhorse, and are the parts on the 69 interchangeable with the 78 115 I have, ie starter, carbs? Sure the ignition is different but for the price he is asking it is worth it just to have a spare set of carbs, starter, lower unit?

Thanks for the replies,WAV

Re: 1969 115hp johnson

115esl69e does cross to a '69 115hp. I've got a '69 evinrude 115 ( same thing ) most parts are still available but getting pricey through oem channels. A quick look at BRP's website shows not much interchangeable with the '78. Also the '69 is an electric shift so you can't even swap lower units, if it doesn't come with the controls, the shift switch is almost impossible to find anymore.

Rocky,

Thanks for the reply, I looked at BRP site, it is not the most user friendly as far as navicating through the pages, maybe after I get more time on the site
I will find it easier to research parts, thanks for the reply. WAV
