ref my earlier post about changing water pump impellor and disconnecting the shift rod.
I have the motor back together, started it up and water trickles out of pee hole but is gushing out of the leg anywhere it can. The question is about that housing on the water tube itself. can it slide up and down the tube and is there a proceedure to install it properly on the top of the pump before re-installing the LU. The housing is far enough up in the the leg to be difficult to tell if everything is lined up before tighening up the bolts.

There should be a rubber grommet in the top of the w/pump hsg. that the tube is held by the way I remember them

That's what I thought too, but the housing is SS with an opening in the top where I can see two of the the impellor vanes which is where the water comes out. Up inside the leg is a triangular shaped rubber thing that the housing must push up against but getting the openings to properly line up is almost impossible, unless there is a trick similar to the one you told me about the shift lever. I have the LU off and can take a photo if you think that will help. I was hoping someone might have a diagram of how the whole thing is supposed to go together.
This has got to be a simple thing to do, once I know how to do it.

That's it exactly. In my motor Part #32 guide with part # 29 Seal attached is up in the leg where I cannot see it at all when I slide the LU in.

How do I get part 28 Cover assy to properly line up with part 29 seal? Am I supposed to remove the seal from the guide? if so how does it come off?

The seal 29 is retained on the top of the pump hsg. by the flange(for lack of a better name) and then the tube is placed on the seal and the whole assembly slides on the water tube as you install the lower unit.

Got it fixed and working right. That diagram really helped, Apparently the rubber seal is installed inside the cover housing and when the LU was removed the seal part was stuck to the water tube and it pulled out of the cover. I had to vaseline it up real good to get it back to where it belonged and then the guide tube fit right on the seat tube and the whole assembly slid right into place inside the leg, It is working perfect now and pumping a lot of water thru the engine and out the pee hole, Thanks for all the help.
I knew it had to be something simple.
