any one have any thoughts on which i should order? looking at a 19 20' bowrider, will be used for cruising, tubeing, boarding, in lakes. i am assuming the v8 will be less stressed and last longer, maybe the 4.3 a bit lighter and faster?

I'd go with the 4.3. It is lighter and since you are look at a relatively light boat, more engine displacement is not necessary. If you were going for a 22 or bigger, then the V-8 would be desirable.

Boarding with a full load and you will appreciate the V8.

There is no replacement for displacement.

boat weight is a factor.
ive got a 19 searay. that weighs 26-2800. 4.3 two bbl in it it does ok. 42 mph with 2 people in it. weak with a full load.

if you get six people in it and a seventh in the water on a rope. all six will be in the bow trying to get you up on plane, and the seventh will be sifting weeds thru his teeth trying to get up on skiis!

im re fitting and going for a 350-383. thats overkill for what you want. but i would go more ponies than what your thinking. its better to have them there then not when you need them.

if your rebuilding check out the different options on the 305. you could easly get it to 250 hp.
gas milage will change a little, but better to go 1/2 throttle than WOT all the time.

cheers

There's only an 81 lb difference between the 5.0 and the 4.3. I would not let weight be a deciding factor. It comes down to giving up a little holeshot and a lot of money for the convenience of fuel injection, with no real difference in top speed. I've owned both carbureted and MPI boats, I'd go for the 5.0 carb.

I'd go with MPI over carb any day. Generally fewer problems especially during winter lay-up. The 4.3 also has more horsepower and less weight to boot. As far as holeshot, you would be hard pressed to feel any difference between the two. In fact, the 4.3 MPI might even have a better holeshot on certain boats. If these are boats at a dealership...ask to take both for a ride.
