Hi There I am working on a 74-79 evinrude 9.9 horse tiller. The owner shifted hard a few times without letting the engine revs drop. Now it seems the linkage is stuck. ( I cant force the shifter from forward to reverse)What could be the problem? AND more importantly, how do I access the linkage to inspect and repair it. Links to assembly drawings would also be most helpful. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Re: early 70 9.9 horse evinrude shift linkage stuck
did you first make sure the throttle is all the way clockwise ( off). on my 25hp it will not shift if the throttle is cranked. You can get diagram at Evinrude.com or ishopmarine.com. it will help if you have the model number.
Re: early 70 9.9 horse evinrude shift linkage stuck
Sorry my error
The Model number is E10RCNS which perhaps is an 1982 model. And yes, I have set the throttle to the "shift" position but I am unable to move the shift lever from the Forward position.
Re: early 70 9.9 horse evinrude shift linkage stuck
it is an 1982, correct manual is "http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1982&ID=6973 8" turn throttle to stop, and try to shift. if not, disconnect shift rod, and drop lower unit.
