I'm buying a 2nd hand boat tomorrow that has an (Australian) Mariner 90 hp on the back. Well I'm a little worried about the motor and wanted some advice please?
First off, the engine seems to run rather roughly (ok then appears to cough then ok and so on). When I pulled the spark plugs, they were covered in black particles and oil that were easily wiped off if that means anything.
Second, the engine tilts just fine but the actual tilt cylinder appears to be very oily? If I tilt the motor up and push hard on the leg, the tilt doesn't budge so I think the pressure's ok.
Third, the motor looks pretty new but on the head there's 1987 printed - the motor's an oil-injected 2 stroke that looks brand new so could the motor be this old??
