I haven’t pressure tested this unit because when I got it the heads were removed and the bolts were in a coffee can severely rusted. I’m hesitant about using the bolts even after a clean up.

Before I do button it up I’d like to get an expert’s opinion about the condition... if it’s possible with what I have here.

That motor has either been run without proper oil or run hot resulting in oil breakdown. Either way, it is called scuffed pistons. No comment on the blue top..I didn't even see that.

If I were to bolt her back up could I hope for good compression or should I replace rings, hone, etc. first?

What!? Are you blind? What a refreshing sight from looking at piston rings and broken lower units.
