Default shaft length

I looking at purchasing a new outboard for my 1988 offshore. How do i know what size shaft i need?

At the center of the boat, measure the height of the transom from where the motor is gonna sit, to the lowest point on the bottom. It should be close to 20" (standard shaft) or 25" (long shaft).
