OK! so, i dont know a whole hell of a lot about boats....but im learning. i have a 1979 Glastron cv23 with a 350 and a mercruiser 260 sterndrive. i have seen a 280 drive and assume the internals are larger. how much power/abuse can a well maintained 260 drive take? I have a spare drive that came with the boat so im wondering if i should build it or get rid of it in favor of something larger. thanks!

I added 1.6:1 aluminum roller rockers, Holley high rise alum intake, and 1-7/8" stainless headers, am guessing I have just over 300 hp now. The 800 stringer was standing up fine until I removed it. Am putting it on an alpha gen 2 right now.

It's not the HP that kills drives, it's the torque. Torque is, for the most part, a function of displacement, so as long as you stay with a normally aspirated 350 engine, you will be fine.

A 280 drive is a Volvo, very different......
Your drive is rated to 300 HP......
Welcome to iboats, btw.....:)
