Hey all...

New to the forums here, but have grown up on the water. I have a 96 Cobalt 252 with the Mercruiser 454 and Bravo III outdrive. I just got it back from the shop and was planning on taking a week voyage. As I started it up in the driveway today (the same way I have for years) after <8 minutes the temp jumped to approx 220 degrees, and immediately white smoke starts billowing out of the prop, gimbal housing, and engine compartment. The impeller was replaced a few months ago, and the drive unit was disassembled and all seals replaced. Any ideas on what it is? There was plenty of water going into the outdrive ears.

An idea? The raw water pump didn't pump enough water to cool the engine. And the smoke was regular exhaust gasses with no water in them, and also your rubber flappers melting.

Are you thinking of any internal engine/outdrive damage? Im not as familiar with marine engines as I am with normal car engines.
