I've got a 1971 18hp Evinrude 18102S. There is a Sierra kit 18-7042 for the fuel pump, but it doesn't have the diaphrams included. Evinrude doesn't have a kit. Is there a substitute like 18-7823 that will work? Thanks.

There should be 2 The one not pictured goes on the round side of the pump and has a big spring in the middle. If I have to I could order one separate as they are in 9.9's and others. I don't understand why they don't include both.
What the.....? Diaphragms and float in a carburetor??? Carbs have a float but no diaphragm. Fuel pumps have diaphragms but no float. What are you working on anyway?
That was my first thought also until I looked at a pic of the carb kit and there was what could be called a diaphram in it. I guess it depends on the definition. There's certainly nothing like it in the older carbs kits I get and install.
OK, I looked at the picture. But I don't see anything like that being used in a 1971 25hp. Maybe in a newer something-else. I'm very familiar with the '71 models, but not the something-else new plastic stuff. Either that or I'm getting oldtimers disease, which is a scary thought.
Re: Substitute fuel pump kit for 18 hp '71 Evinrude?
Sorry guys. Not sure where my head's at. Been having a lot of trouble with a craftsman carburetor. Dealing with the State of Il govt. on a problem really fouls things up too. It is for a fuel pump. Guess I'll have to start over. I went back and deleted some posts and changed the others. I hope this doesn't confuse everyone further. Again, I apologize.
