Change from Johnson to Evinrude

Im putting an 98 90hp evinrude on from an 83 90 johnson.They both have the red plug. There is a different plug on the newer motor.The older moter has a black fuse box on the battery cables in by the battery.Any help

A little confusing -- the 98 will not have a red cannon plug on the engine wiring harness. It may have an adaptor harness that ends up with a red cannon plug but the engine harness itself does not have a red plug like the 83.

There shouldn't be any box ON the battery cables. If there's a fuse panel by the batter it's most likely for the boat electrics.

Looks like adapter kit #176349 will work,about $67.00.available from your local BRP Dealer.
