Tachometer choice

I have a 1973 Mercury 500--50 hp--2 stroke --4 cylinder outboard.I have a tachometer sitting in the basement that shows 0 to 6000 rpm and has 2 ,4,6,and 12 pole settings.It has red,black,blue,green and white wires coming out the back.Can this tach be used with the above mentioned outboard?

Set the tach for 6 pulses but I don't know where the wires go for sure, might be able to help more with the brand and model of the tach
