Converting foot controlled trolling motor to key fob?

I have a 2004 Minn Kota Power Drive trolling motor with an electronic wired foot control. I can put a converter on it to convert to a key fob type controller, but it's $150.00. I would hate to spend that much for something I won't use. I'm just now trying to learn how to use the foot control so I don't have a lot to "unlearn". What I need is some input as to whether any of you have the fob type and whether you like it. Also, with the way the shaft on the Power Drive slides through the bracket, can I put a transducer on it? It's not a lot of help knowing what's happening 18 1/2 feet behind me with a transom mounted transducer on my bow mounted fishfinder. Thanks!

Re: Converting foot controlled trolling motor to key fob?

I have a transducer on my MinnKota PD troller and it is not difficult to do. It will take me a bit to dig out the pictures how to do this but I will post them tomorrow. Stay tuned. The Co-pilot feature you are talking about is a popular conversion and I guess my thoughts are why you want to make the conversion since you need your hands to fish with. While you are fishing your feet are just sort of hanging around so why not put them to use operating the foot control.

i have the motor guide wp45, would never go back to a foot control. my wireless foot control is in the storage locker.
the key fob on my belt. i can move and fish any where in the boat. it has a nice center nub , that you feel and never have to look at it. you just move you thumb which way you want to go, fast or slower.

no cables or controls to stumble over.
