I am getting leakage around the expansion plug in the carburator of my 15 hp Evinrude engine. I have replaced the seal with the same results.
Is there any substance that can be used to assure a seal that can be removed the next time the carb is rebuilt?

I assume you're speaking of one of the carburetor core plugs. They should be seated with a punch that covers almost all of the plug (or most of it). This cause the plug to expand evenly whereas it should not leak.

However,a substance named GasOila can be purchased at most automobile part stores. This substance, when coating the outside portion of the core plug, seals them sufficently.

I have used red silicone to seal up the core plug with no adverse problems.
