Glastron engine change

To begin with I have been an auto tech for about 30 years. A friend needs my help changing his boat engine and I am looking for some pointers on what I have got myself into. It is a 2000 Glastron GX 185 with a 4.3L V6 and a Volvo Penta SX185 stern drive. He had problems with it overheating and it got water in the oil which we tryed repairing by fixing some bad exhaust manifold gaskets. Anyhow after he used the boat three times, the problem returned. It now has a horrible knocking in the crankcase. He wants to pull the engine and tear it down to inspect. Any help would be appreciated!!!:(:(

We'd be happy to offer advice or suggestions; but what exactly is the question?

First thing you guys need to do is get the OEM Service Manuals for that engine.
You're going to need it for a lot more than just getting the engine out.
