I am thinking of purchasing a used 1997 StarCraft Fisherman 190 CC. It has a 120 HP Force, by Mercury, outboard. The price is $7000. Boat has a Bimi top and a depth finder. Boat looks in good conditin, but I don't know anything about these outboards and need opinions please. Thanks in advance for your help.

96 - Go to the top of the page and locate the red search function. Enter "Force" as the search arguement and find many, and diverse, opinions about these motors. I'm not sure if you will tap into all the posts on the Force motors here so jump over to the outboard section and hit the search there.

Lotta bucks for a boat that old(6+ years)..round here in south Florida that rig would go for 'bout $3500.00. That particular motor is an economy line made by Mercury (originaly a Chrysler)now discontinued since '97 or '98. Its a fair motor IF it was maintained properly. Older technology was the reason Mercury discontinued them, would've cost too much to bring them up to modern EPA standards now required. The factory DOES NOT support them anymore..only parts available are in the dealer system.
