Default Help! Yamaha engine techs and experts.

I am a first time boat buyer and i am looking at buying a 18ft aluminum bass boat (Xpress H18) which comes with a Yamaha engine. I will be using this boat for bass fishing in lakes 95% of the time, the occasional joy ride and to pull a skier every once in a while. I have read hundreds of forums on the 2stroke vs. 4stroke topic and cant get a clear answer to my question. I am trying to deside between the Yamaha F150 and the 150 VMAX HDPI. I have heard all the stuff about the more weight of four strokes but there is only a two pound difference in the weight of these two engines on the Yamaha specs part of their webpage. I have heard people down the 4strokes for all of the extra moving parts and expense of repair when things break. Are the Yamaha 4strokes more of a troublesome engine and does it cost more to repair than a Yamaha HDPI motor? If properly maintenced which would last me the longest and at the least expense of maintence and repair? In my "uneducated O/B mind", a 4stroke would seem more of a longer lasting better built motor but im i wrong?

Default Re: Help! Yamaha engine techs and experts.

the Vmax has had issues. myself, and I own an F150, I would pick the F150 and prop it with a full load at 6000, then it wont be so over propped with the occasional skier.
be aware that even with the skier it still needs to turn 5500 or better.
the hole shot on the V series is faster than the F series and the top end is usually a bit faster.
the trade off is 2 stroke oil, possibly an O2 sensor and a medium pressure filter that cost about 90 dollars and should be replaced at 100 hour intravals.add another 9 dolars for the filter clamp that is not reusable.
both are good engines, however both require maint at specific hourly and calander intravals.
