I'm lost on this thing. I volunteered to help a guy out.

This is a 1976 Ev. 35 with secondary coils on the head and driver coil, points and condensers under the flywheel. And it has battery charging magneto too.

I have a seloc manual and have read about testing the ignition components. The manual says to hook up your handy dandy OMC winky blinky and watch the lights. So, there are no test specs given.

ok! I don't have the winky blinky. I do however have a DVM and a Peak reading adapter. What test specs should I be looking for? And where?

DVA outputs at cranking etc.

And what ohm readings to what wires should i be getting on the secondary coils and driver coil.

And test specs for the magneto charging system.

Thank you for the reponse. Yes i have the CDI book. It does not contain specs and tests for this oddball middle of the road system.

This is an odd ball. not regular magneto yet not CD either. somewhere in the middle.

This system is 2 cyl 35 HP, 1976, and 74-76 40 hp only, Instead of a CD module to fire the coils it uses a single ignition driver coil under the flywheel with the points alternately sending the primary pulse to each respective firing coil instead of through a control module.

Thus the listed specs, wiring colors, functions etc. do not match anything in the CDI test manual. And as i wrote previously my seloc manual does not show specifics either.

I would guess the secondary coils, for firing the plugs, on this thing probably test close to most other systems. And condensers the same. but are there any known resistance tests or dva peak reading test, specific to this system, for the single driver coil on this oddball?

If I had a known good spare driver coil I would install it and re test but I don't. Maybe I should just buy one just to eliminate it and for safety/sanity's sake?
