Shift Rod Length

What is the spec on a 1988 Johnson GT 150 with a 20" lower. J150STLCC

I am thinking it is 20 5/16" But I want to be certain before I drop the lower unit for the third time. Also, do I measure from the top edge of the lower unit casing, or the rubber/plastic cover around the shift rod? It has been a while since I had to adjust one of these.

My after market manual states distance from mating surface of gearcase to center of hole in top of shift rod 22 1/32 -22-3/32 with gearcase in neutral.
Top of shift rod should slant forward after adjusting.
